Vintage Navajo Sterling Silver Black Onyx Ring — Ricky T. Amarante (R. TAM)

Price

$295.00

A bold and beautifully balanced Navajo silver ring, handcrafted by Ricky T. Amarante (R. TAM) and set with a deep black onyx cabochon. The stone sits confidently within a stepped sterling bezel, framed by finely detailed silverwork that gives the ring both weight and presence without excess.

The stamp “R. TAM” is attributed to Ricky T. Amarante, a Navajo silversmith active primarily from the late 20th century into the early 2000s. His work is known for confident silver construction, strong architectural shanks, and classic Navajo revival aesthetics. While not mass-produced, his rings are respected and collectible examples of authentic Native American silversmithing.

The ring is set with a polished black onyx cabochon. Black onyx has long been favored by Navajo silversmiths for its depth, durability, and striking contrast against sterling silver. Its rich, glassy surface gives the ring a bold but understated presence.

The wide, architectural shank features clean ribbed lines that taper comfortably at the back — a hallmark of Amarante’s disciplined bench style. The result is a ring that feels grounded, timeless, and unmistakably handmade, built to be worn rather than stored away.

Important Note About Condition:

At Jack Gringo, we offer our vintage pieces exactly as we find them — honest, unpolished, and untouched by heavy restoration. We believe time leaves its own signature, and for many collectors, that natural patina is not wear but history. Every mark, soft edge, and shadow in the silver tells a story of where the piece has been and who once carried it. We travel far and wide searching for these objects so you can experience them as close to their original state as possible, just as they surfaced from the world. Once the piece is yours, the choice is yours — polish it, restore it, or leave it as it is. We simply pass it along with respect, letting you decide how its next chapter is written.
